On Friday, February 10, 2023, the Amstelveen Sports Gala was organized to honour the champions of three years: 2020, 2021, and 2022. The gala was a celebration of the achievements of the athletes, coaches, and talents from various sports who have made a significant impact in their respective fields. ARCers Jeff, Samir and Lexi were part of the nominees.
Inclusive Society in Amstelveen
The Amstelveen Sports Gala is deliberately chosen for Sportsperson of the Year and not Sportsman or Sportswoman of the Year. The organizers and the Amstelveense Rugby Club recognize that everyone should be able to participate in sports, regardless of age, income, sexual orientation, or cultural background. An inclusive society is the starting point in Amstelveen, and the organizers want to ensure that everyone feels at home in the world of sports.
Volunteer of the Year
For volunteer of the year, Jeff Meijer was nominated, representing the Amstelveense Rugby Club. Karin de Groot states"he is a valuable member of our club, and he has taken the task of Barbeheer for years now".
Talent of the Year 2022
In the Talent of the Year 2022 category, according to Amstelveen Sports, three athletes have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication in their respective sports and have inspired others with their achievements. From Amstelveense Rugby Club, Lexi Muggleton representing the ARC Colts was nominated. The rest of the nominees for this category were: Jenna Telles (karate), and Isabel van den Berg (athletics).
A New Category: Coach of the Year
This year, the Amstelveen Sports Gala had a new category - Coach of the Year. The organizers and the Amstelveense Rugby Club believe that coaches play an important role in the success of their athletes. They provide guidance, support, and encouragement to their teams, helping them to reach their full potential. As a result, the Coach of the Year category has been added to the Sports Gala to give coaches the recognition they deserve.
From Amstelveense Rugby Club, Samir Toumi, the Amstelveen ARC3 Coach, was nominated for Coach of the Year 2022.
In conclusion, the Amstelveen Sports Gala was a celebration of the champions, coaches, and talents who have made a significant impact in the world of sports. The event was an opportunity to honour the achievements of these individuals and to inspire others to pursue their passions. Although no price was given to any of our club members, Amstelveense Rugby Club received 3 nominations, which the club is very proud of.
